98th Academy Awards

Film Journal

Hello! Welcome to my page for the 98th Academy Awards.

My plan for this year, since I have a ton of time on my hands, is to watch every nominated film (or as many as I'm able to watch, since some shorts appear to not be distributed much).

This page is going to be a blog/journal type thing in which I document my "journey" (of sorts) in watching all of the films. Once I've watched everything, I'll make another page for my rankings and predictions.

The order I'm watching the films in

I decided to plan out the order I'm watching all of the films in.

The order is based on priority and the categories. I randomized each of the following categories and then put them all in a list to follow.

  1. Best Picture
  2. The 2 films in Best Original Screenplay that aren't above.
    • The screenplay categories are the most important ones (other than BP) for me personally, so I wanted to make sure I had those down.
  3. The animation categories
  4. The documentary categories
  5. Best Original Short Film
  6. The two films in Best International that weren't already covered
  7. Everything else (in a randomized order)

Whenever I can't watch a particular movie for whatever reason, I skip it for that day and go onto the next. I'll watch the skipped movie as soon as I'm able. There will probably be some shorts that I won't watch due to lack of distribution.

Any movies I already watched earlier this year will be watched again (these are marked with an asterisk (*)).

Here is an index of the films

I will add links to jump to the entries once I finish each film.

Train Dreams

Watched on 1-29-2026

This movie is very pretty. But also it was very boring to me and I spent at least 75% of it waiting for it to be over.

I personally could not seem to connect well to the main character or the setting, and those are the main things this movie is about, so it was hard to enjoy it.

I don't really have any good criticisms of it, and that makes me think that this movie probably just isn't meant for me. But also, I literally just watched it (as of writing), so maybe I'll have a better understanding of what didn't work after some time has passed.

2.5/5
